Meeting between with the President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly

On 16 October 2026 Mr. Jonibek Hikmat, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations met with Mr. Khallilur Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the meeting, the sides discussed the further implementation of the mandate of the President of the General Assembly pursuant to resolution A/RES/80/304 on the modalities of the 2028 United Nations Water Conference. Particular attention was devoted to the appointment of two co‑facilitators to lead the intergovernmental consultations on the outcome document, the “Dushanbe Water Framework”, as well as to the convening of a high‑level preparatory meeting for the Conference at United Nations Headquarters in New York in March 2027.
The Permanent Representative also underscored the importance of close cooperation in the preparations for the 2028 UN Water Conference and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to working closely with the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly. The President of the General Assembly, in turn, expressed his readiness to support and facilitate the preparations for the Conference.
